Ahh, who doesn't love it? =) Went to Chinatown today to take part in the festivities of it all. Loveeeee. For the first time in ages, I remembered to bring a camera! Go me.




According to Wikipedia,

Buying a pair of shoes on Chinese New Year is considered bad luck. The word "shoes" is a homophone for the word for "rough" in Cantonese.

• Buying a pair of pants on Chinese New Year is considered bad luck. The word "pants" is a homophone for the word for "bitter" in Cantonese. (Although some perceive it to be positive as the word 'pants' in Cantonese could be a homophone for the word for "wealth".)
• A hair-cut is considered bad luck. The word "hair" is a homophone for the word for "prosperity". Thus "cutting hair" could be perceived as "cutting away your prosperity" in Cantonese.
• Sweeping the floor is considered bad luck, as it will sweep away the good fortune and luck for the new year; in the same way that having a bath will wash away the good fortune.
• Talking about death is inappropriate for the first few days of Chinese New Year, as it is considered inauspicious as well. (...I talked about death today. Thanks, Skrzynecki.)
• Buying books is bad luck because the word for "book" is a homonym to the word "lose".

Haha, I saw this couple in a TVB series eat it a few years ago (myolie and ben? in Survivor's Law) & I've wanted to eat it like this for a while now. LOL I'm so sad. My sister bought chicken skewers and RAMUNE!, the jap fizzy drink.

My (half eaten) lunch - Chicken katsu w/ rice AND udon, for $8.30. UBER CHEAP, aye? Some place next to Chinatown. Just to let you know, I have this really weird obsesssion of taking photos of food. I'm not weird or anything... really!

Some of the stuff I bought from Chinatown. My mum went crazy and bought heaps =/ Not that you want to see pictures of lanterns and cooking supplies.

I even cleaned my room for Chinese New Year. Following superstition, of course. OMG, my room is clean! Hey, you can see some of my math equations on the wall. =P

Anoher superstition is new bedsheets - and I don't like my new bedsheets as much as my old ones. =(

This week was also Valentine's Day, Prefect Induction and the Annual School Swimming Carnival. I only have photos of prefect induction, awws. =( Sorry no flash - I blame my dad for his dodgy camera skills, hehe.

Overall, an exhausting week. Anyway, I'm off to do more homework. Nerd time!
